ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI -- A 27-year-old man faces multiple charges after authorities claim he sexually abused young children and made pornographic images of the attacks.
Nicholas Michael Belkiewicz has been arraigned in 72nd District Court on three counts of child sexually abusive activity, one count each of using computers to commit a crime and possession of child sexually abusive material, five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 years of age, and three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 years of age.
Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office were recently called out to the 4000 block of Dove Road in Port Huron Township to investigate after a man known by Belkiewicz discovered what he thought to be child pornography inside the home and called the police.
A search warrant was obtained by the sheriff's office for a media device on which deputies discovered child pornography. A search warrant was then obtained for Belkiewicz's residence where detectives claim to have found hundreds of child pornography images and videos.
Children abused by Belkiewicz range from four months to 11 years old, police said, with the abuse believed to have been taking place for more than one years' time and involving relatives or children of friends.
The child sexually abusive activity, using computers to commit a crime, and possession of child sexually abusive material charges against Belkiewicz came during a Feb. 4 court hearing. The criminal sexual conduct charges were added on at Feb. 13 probable cause conference.
He's being held in the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center on a $1 million cash or surety bond ahead of a Feb. 20 preliminary exam.
He faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.
