Paedo sentenced to 175 years for sexually abusing 2 children
A Broken Arrow man was sentenced to 175 years in prison for convictions on five counts of child sexual abuse involving two children.
Jurors recommended in October that Jeffery Arch Jones, 26, receive prison sentences of 40 years each for three of the five counts, along with sentences of 25 and 30 years for the other two charges.
Jones was accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old between September 2015 and September 2016 and an 11-year-old between August 2015 and August 2016.
District Judge William LaFortune upheld the jury's sentencing recommendations during a brief sentencing hearing Monday afternoon and ordered that each term be served consecutively, overruling a request from defense attorney Beverly Atteberry for concurrent sentencing.
Assistant District Attorney Katie Koljack asked for consecutive sentencing, saying the jury based its specific recommendations on testimony about the severity of each of the charged offenses.
Child sexual abuse against a person younger than 12, according to Oklahoma law, requires a sentence of least 25 years under Oklahoma Department of Corrections supervision. It also mandates that a person incarcerated for such a crime serve at least 85 percent of any sentence imposed before becoming eligible for parole.
