A paedophile from Luton has been jailed for 20 years after being found guilty of raping a young girl.
Delroy Henton, 61, of Wolston Close Luton, was sentenced on Friday, September 8, at Luton Crown Court after being found guilty of three counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault.
Henton’s abuse began when the girl was just 10 years old and continued for several years.
He sexually assaulted and raped her on several occasions until she confided the abuse to an adult.
Police then launched an investigation and Henton was arrested. Det Con Tom Pantony, who led the investigation, said: “This was an absolutely sickening case of child sexual abuse. Henton subjected his victim to a period of four years of horrific abuse, and I’m pleased that the sentence reflects the severity of his offences.
This should act as a stark warning to anyone that thinks that child sexual abuse is acceptable or that they will get away with it.
“I’d like to pay tribute to the bravery of the victim in coming forward, and I hope we have achieved some sense of justice and closure for her. We are dedicated to tackling child sexual abuse, and I hope this gives others the confidence to come forward knowing that you will be supported and justice can be achieved.”

SHREVEPORT, La. - A Shreveport man convicted last month for repeatedly raping a 6-year-old relative has been sentenced to life in prison.
For the crime of aggravated rape of a child under age 13, Edward Keith Johnson, 55, must spend the rest of his life in prison, without the possibility of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
Johnson's victim was also present for sentencing. The child was escorted into and out of court by the advocacy group, BACA, Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Johnson was convicted by an eight-woman, four-man jury that determined after a week long trial that ended Aug. 14, that Johnson repeatedly sexually abused his victim, a relative by marriage, numerous times over several months prior to March 2015.
That was when the 6-year-old victim finally told his grandmother of the oral and anal rapes he had suffered, as he testified to the court, "too many to count."
The rapes occurred at Johnson's residence on Charles Street in Shreveport, at a shop in Bossier City and in the parking lot of a local supermarket, the court was told.
The grandmother reported the attacks to authorities and Johnson was arrested in April 2015.
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -
Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge a Jonesboro man with sexually assaulting two girls.
Jeffory Wayne Harlan, 47, is charged with one count each of rape and second-degree sexual assault. He is also charged with two counts of sexual indecency with a child.
An investigator with the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division interviewed the victims last month following a call to the child abuse hotline.
Court documents revealed in detail theassaults, which reportedly took place in late July at a Craighead County home.
Following the CACD’s investigation, Sgt. Ron Richardson with the sheriff’s office interviewed Harlan on Sept. 11.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Harlan did not deny the allegations. He told Richardson he could not remember what happened because he was drunk at the time.
“He said he has been blacking out while drinking lately,” the court documents stated.
Harlan reportedly told the detective he did not think the victims lied about the incident and “apologized numerous times.”
If convicted of the rape, a Class Y felony, Harlan could be sentenced to 10-40 years or life in prison.
Fowler set Harlan's bond at $10,000 and ordered him to appear in circuit court on Oct. 31.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Albuquerque physician’s assistant was arrested for repeated sexual abuse of a young relative in northeast Albuquerque, according to a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
Deputy Felicia Maggard said James Beverly, 47, is charged with criminal sexual contact for abusing a child between March and August.
“James is an active physician’s assistant and has contact with minors due to his place of employment,” Maggard said.
Beverly was arrested at his family practice office in Cedar Crest, she said. He also was arrested in 2001, in Colorado, for enticement of a child.
Maggard did not have additional details on that arrest.
A motion for preventative detention, filed by prosecutors in Metropolitan Court on Monday, claimed Beverly is a convicted sex offender in Utah and, in his job, treats “children of the same age as the victim.”
According to the motion, Beverly was convicted in Utah when he tried to have sex with a 13-year-old child. The motion does not state when that conviction occurred.
“His history of a conviction in Utah coupled with his new crimes this year make him a flight risk,” the document says. Beverly is in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center on an no-holds bond.
Anyone with any information regarding potential victims of James are urged to contact detectives at 505-263-4918

Two boys who were reportedly sexually assaulted by a 38-year-old Odessa man also made other claims of abuse while living in Odessa, according to a police affidavit.
The two brothers, ages 7 and 9, were living in Odessa with family when the incidents occurred, according to the document. OPD arrested and charged David Edward Wood with six counts of indecency with a child, a third-degree felony, and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
The affidavit shows the boys told their mother about the incidents involving Wood, who they knew, when they were visiting her in Abilene. When they returned to Odessa, they were both interviewed and talked about the indecent acts, identifying Wood as the perpetrator.
The affidavit stated the boys remained in Odessa on or about the month of June or July and when they returned to Abilene, new information was revealed to their mother. There was ongoing sexual abuse not only by Wood, but also by another family member, a male juvenile, the affidavit stated.
On July 3 both boys were interviewed at the child advocacy center in Abilene during which they detailed the multiple occasions of sexual abuse from Wood, the incident with a juvenile male, and reported physical abuse from an adoptive mother, the affidavit shows.
One of the children also said he saw their adoptive mother strike his brother with a belt causing injury, the document shows.
OPD Spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur said although there were other claims made, the case and all claims made were thoroughly investigated and at this time no more arrests are anticipated with this case.
Jail records show Woods remained in jail Tuesday on bonds totaling $730,000.
