A 69-year-old Chesapeake man was sentenced to serve more than three life terms for sexually abusing a 7-year-old boy.
At a trial earlier this year, jurors recommended Miguel Angel Carcana serve three life sentences plus five years in prison. Judge Marjorie Taylor Arrington imposed the jury’s recommendation at a brief hearing Friday in Circuit Court.
Before she pronounced the sentence, Arrington asked Carcana if he wanted to say anything.
“No, ma’am,” Carcana replied.
He was a friend of the child’s family and abused the boy in 2014 and 2015, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Parr. The abuse occurred in Carcana’s home, she said.
He was convicted of four counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of forcible sodomy, one count of an indecent act and one count of sexual object penetration, court records show.
As part of his sentence, he must also pay a $40,000 fine.
Carcana’s defense attorney, Michael Woods, said his client maintains his innocence and plans to appeal.
A 45-year-old Escambia County man has been sentenced for sexually abusing a child.

On Thursday, August 31, State Attorney Bill Eddins announced Brown was convicted of capital sexual battery on a victum under 12 years of age. He was also convicted of three counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a victim 12 to 15 years of age.
Escambia County Circuit Judge John Miller sentenced him to three consecutive life sentences for each sexual battery and three consecutive 15 year sentences for the lewd or lascivious battery counts.

ROY — A victim has come forward to claim that Brian Jack Anderson, 35, had sex with her “hundreds of times” between 2010 and 2013, abuse that occurred when the victim was under 14 years of age.
Anderson was charged Aug. 30 by the Weber County District Attorney with rape of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child, both first-degree felonies.
Roy police said that the complaint was first brought to authorities for investigation in April 2016, and the victim was interviewed by Child Protective Services at the Brigham Children’s Justice Center.
Anderson frequently had the victim over for “sleepovers” in which he sometimes supplied the victim with alcohol and “spice,” or synthetic marijuana, before having intercourse with the victim, charging documents said.
In a clandestinely recorded phone call with the victim in which “sexual abuse was only alluded to,” Roy police said Anderson apologized for “what happened.”
Roy police said that in their interviews with Anderson, he “denied the allegations” but “made several contradicting statements and altered and changed his story several times to fit the evidence presented to him.”
Anderson is out of custody on $42,000 bail and is scheduled to appear Sept. 5 in Ogden’s 2nd District Court.

CANTON Police have arrested a wanted 80-year-old man who the state prison system believes is “dangerous and possibly armed.”
Calvin Smith, of Leander Place NE, in East Canton also was a wanted sex offender on parole, according to Stark County Jail records.
Canton police arrested him at 10:11 a.m. Thursday at the Canton Police Department on two theft warrants and a warrant charging him with failure to notify authorities of his change of address.
Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records show he is a wanted fugitive labeled a violator-at-large. He was released from prison in July after serving time for felony drug possession.
The records direct anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to avoid him and instead call 911, adding, “This individual should be considered dangerous and possibly armed.”
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office website shows he is a sex offender who served seven years in prison after he was convicted of raping a child.
Stark County court records show Smith also went to prison in 2014 for failure to notify authorities of his change of address, in 2000 for forgery and in 1993 for theft.

A 22-year-old Yucaipa man was arrested for repeated sexual acts with an under-age girl he met at a local church function, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department announced.

Curtis Ryan Fink was charged with lewd acts with a child under 14 and continuous sexual abuse with a child, the Sheriff’s office statement said.
After Fink befriended the victim, the two of them began a relationship two years ago, when the victim was 13 years old, the statement said.
Yucaipa Police Detectives assumed the investigation, and determined that Fink engaged in multiple sexual acts with the victim over the last two years.
Fink was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for the above charges. Due to the sensitivity of this case, and the on-going complex investigation, no further details are being released, according to the statement.
Fink is known to associate himself with minors at various church functions, and detectives believe it is possible that Fink has engaged in other sexual acts with minors from the church, sheriff’s officials said.

A Timbercrest Elementary School janitor is now facing several counts of sexual battery and incest, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
George Cortes, 76, was arrested at the Florida school Friday around 10:30 a.m., following an investigation that began in mid-June, according to deputies.
Two teenage girls told detectives that Cortes sexually battered them from 2014 to 2015. Deputies say one of the victims was between 15 and 16 years old, while the other was between 18 and 19.
The older victim said Cortes would come into her bedroom while she was sleeping and fondle her in bed, deputies said. Cortes also sexually abused the younger victim twice, once by coming into her room while she was sleeping and again when he sexually battered her in his own bedroom.
Although none of the allegations had anything to with the school, the Sheriff's Office is asking the parents who knew Cortes to speak with their children and report anything suspicious.
Deputies searched Cortes' home and found evidence that could lead to additional charges.
He is currently in custody with no bond.

The little girl told police that Mills, who is married to her biological grandmother, came into her room with a knife and threatened to kill her, the report states.
Deputies say that Mills performed oral sex on the victim.
The girl's father, who has not been named by to protect the victim, said on Facebook: 'I want to thank the community for [coming] together to help find her but most of all I want to thank the police officer[s] who [were] out there helping to find my baby.
