“Evil” Mark Hoddinott has been jailed for 13 years after he was convicted of rape and sexual assault against three young girls.
Recorder Paul Garlick QC told the 51-year-old from Frome his “heinous” actions had resulted in severe psychological trauma for his victims.
Hoddinott, of Portland Place, Frome, was found guilty of raping and attempting to rape a girl under 13 and sexually assaulting another.
A jury also found him guilty of five charges of intentionally touching a girl under 13. The court also heard how he showed a child pornographic images.
The judge slammed Hoddinott for putting his ‘vulnerable’ victims through the trauma of giving evidence at a trial.
He said: “From the time you committed your first serious sex offence you can no longer be regarded as a man of good character and I cannot give you credit.
“You caused them to revisit the horrors you perpetuated on them over the years. All of these offences involved the most serious breach of trust.
“I hope and trust they will appreciate the sentence and I hope it does not diminish the disgust society must have on your thoroughly evil conduct.”
Avon & Somerset Police said the charges relate to offences in the eighties and since 2000. He was found guilty at the end of a jury trial.
Hoddinott was sentenced to 13 years for attempted rape, seven years for assault by penetration, five years for two counts of sexual assault against a child, 11 years for rape and four years for the sexual assault charges, 18 months for gross indecency, and two years for causing a child to look at the pornographic image.
The judge told Hoddinott if he was to sentence him for the charges consecutively, he would be behind bars “for decades”. He will serve the sentences concurrently.
Recorder Garlick told him: “I will take into account the fact you are now 51 and that you have been diagnosed with HIV, but in my judgement that is not a mitigating factor in this case.
“You will find it difficult in prison and while the offences of serious sex abuse where separate and individually heinous, I am obliged to moderate the totality of your sentence.”
Hoddinott must sign the sex offenders’ register for life, is the subject of a sexual harm prevention order and was given a restraining order to prevent him from contacting his victims.
The judge told him: “You will not be released until the parole board considers it is appropriate.”

Deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested a man wanted in connection with the sexual abuse of a child after he barricaded himself in a Summerville home.
Jimmy Barry Christopher II is facing charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under age 11, according to Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran.
Investigators say the crimes took place over a nearly two-year period beginning in January 2015 but said they would not release further details to "preserve the identity of the victim for their protection."
Christopher was arrested by detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, the Dorchester County K9 Unit and a U.S. Marshals Task Force, he said.
Authorities say they located Christopher at a Summerville home that was not his address of record and say he barricaded himself inside the home during a three-hour standoff. Deputies were able to obtain consent to enter the home and found Christopher hiding under items in a bedroom, Cochran said.
"These types of cases are among the most horrific things that we investigate," Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said. "I am pleased that we were able to bring this case to a conclusion and pray that the victim will recover."
Christopher was being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing Thursday night, Cochran said.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A corrections officer from the state of Ohio has been arrested in Watertown for having sexual contact with a child.
According to police, 31-year-old Andrew Nichols came to the Watertown Police station on Aug. 15 when he was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse.
The arrest was the result of an investigation which determined that Nichols subjected a child under the age of 11 at the time to sexual contact at a residence in the City of Watertown.
The incident occurred in 2010.
Nichols was sent to the Jefferson County Jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

A Klamath Falls man arrested last year for the repeated sexual abuse of an underage female relative has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Joshua Jay Morrow, 37, was sentenced Thursday to two consecutive 25-year terms and a lifetime of probation after being found guilty July 17 of incest, two counts of first-degree rape and six counts of first-degree sodomy.
Morrow was arrested April 6, 2016, for the ongoing abuse of the victim between 2012 and 2016 starting when she was 8 years old. The victim eventually told her mother, who then confronted Morrow and notified police.
Morrow told investigators he has felt attractions to minors since he was 6 or 7 due to sexual abuse he experienced as a child. He also admitted to telling the victim his actions were not legal and told her, if she ever reported the abuse, he may go to jail. He also told the victim, if the abuse was reported, her mother may kill herself for allowing it to happen.
Defense attorney Marcus Costello said, between Morrow’s own abuse experience and his traumatic Army service in Iraq, mental health treatment was more appropriate than prison time. Costello argued for a sentence of eight years and four months, which he said would allow Morrow more time to seek treatment because sex offender programs are not available through the Department of Corrections.

ALBANY — The state’s highest court will not hear the case of a Waterloo man convicted of sexually abusing a young boy in 2011.
In a press release, Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch said the New York Court of Appeals has denied the appeal of Ronald Spoor. Court of Appeals Judge Leslie Stein wrote the decision on Aug. 9.
In April, the Fourth Judicial Department of state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division in Rochester unanimously upheld Spoor’s conviction. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual act — a class B felony — and was sentenced by Judge Daniel Doyle to five years in prison.
Spoor’s conviction stems from his sexual abuse of an 8-year-old victim. On appeal, Spoor claimed Doyle erred in not suppressing his admission to a state police investigator and that his guilty plea was legally insufficient.
Spoor, 53, was represented on the appeal by Buffalo-area attorney Charles Greenberg. Porsch represented the prosecution.
Porsch said Spoor has now exhausted his direct appeal opportunities in New York.
Last year, Spoor was convicted in federal court on child pornography charges and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He is serving his sentence at Allenwood Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania.

A wheelchair-bound pervert who raped and sexually abused a young girl has been jailed for 13 years.
A judge told Andrew Patterson he posed a danger to children and an extended sentence was needed.
The 37-year-old, who suffers from a degenerative spinal condition, was sentenced  to a total of 18 years - 13 years behind bars with five years on extended licence.
Patterson must therefore serve at least two-thirds of the jail term before being considered for parole. Under usual sentences prisoners are automatically released halfway through.
Once he is released he will also have a further five years added to his licence period.
Patterson sat in his wheelchair in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court in Kent today as Judge Adele Williams told him: "I have no doubt you pose a significant risk of causing serious harm to children by the commission of further offences and it is therefore necessary to impose an extended sentence of imprisonment."
Patterson, of Trevale Road, Rochester, had admitted three charges of rape and two of sexual assault at a previous hearing.
He also admitted an offence of making indecent photos of children and one of distributing indecent photos of a child between March 5 and March 27.
The court heard the images depicted abuse of all levels of seriousness as categorised by police.
Sentencing was adjourned until today for a report into the issue of dangerousness.
Patterson was also made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and told to sign on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
He will also be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Brandon Lionel Davis, 40, of Berryton, was booked into jail in connection with two felonies involving sex crimes against minors. (Shawnee County Jail)
A Shawnee County man was booked into jail Wednesday in connection with sex crimes against a minor.
Brandon Lionel Davis, 40, of Berryton, was arrested in connection with aggravated criminal sodomy with a victim under 18 and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, both felonies.
Jail officials said Davis’ bond was set at $100,000 surety. He was still at the Shawnee County Department of Corrections late Thursday afternoon.
According to Kansas Department of Corrections and court records, Davis was sentenced to 13 months in prison and five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to rape — sexual intercourse with a child 14 or younger, in 2004.
Davis is the eighth area man to be jailed in connection with sex crimes against juveniles since July 14.

The Madison County sheriff calls a man charged with multiple sex offenses a "predator" after authorities say he had sexual contact with 13-year-old girl.
Jonathan Woodrow Ramsey is charged with two counts of statutory rape, three counts of a sexual offense with a child and one count of disseminating obscene material to a minor.
“Based upon the investigation, Jonathan is a predator and was attempting to prey and lure more young girls," Sheriff Buddy Harwood said in a news release Thursday.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said it began an investigation after it received a complaint that Ramsey was having an inappropriate relationship with a minor.
Authorities said they were able to determine that Ramsey had been having inappropriate contact with at least two minor children and they determined he had sexually molested one of the two children.
The sheriff's office said Ramsey confessed after detectives interviewed him about the statutory rape.
Ramsey is in custody at the Madison County Detention Facility under a $500,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, August 23.
A jury was to be selected next week to determine whether or not Ryan Joseph Brown was guilty of physically and sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl in 2015. Instead, he pleaded guilty last week, according to court records.
Brown, 26, was arrested along with his mother and his girlfriend for the assault of the 3-year-old girl within a two-week period in a Wolf Township residence in 2015, state police alleged in an affidavit.
The young girl was abused in the first two weeks of November of 2015.
Brown and his girlfriend were living with his mother in a trailer at 22 Michael Ave. in Hughesville.
Although the two women didn’t come forward, another of Brown’s relatives reported the abuse after signs became clear of sexual and physical assault.
After an investigation, police determined that, aside from the sexual assault, Brown hit the victim in the face, back and other parts of her body.
In some cases, these strikes caused large bruises.
On at least one occasion, police said Brown slammed the child on the ground while he was changing her diaper.
The girl was treated at Muncy Valley Hospital and transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville the same afternoon it was reported.
A few days later during an interview with a counselor from the Child Advocacy Center in Northumberland County, the young victim confirmed that Brown did abuse her.
Initially facing 14 charges in April of 2015, Brown pleaded guilty recently to aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault of a child under the age of 13, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person.
Both his mom, Theresa Maria Brown, 56, and his girlfriend, Deana Marie Morrill, 28, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child for failing to report the physical and sexual abuse.
Theresa Brown is scheduled to plead guilty on Oct. 6 and Morrill on Oct. 27, according to court records.
