Police have arrested a New Orleans man and accused him of impregnating a 12-year-old girl after repeatedly raping her, according to
Investigators allege that Jose Moreno Cervantes35, raped the victim on three occasions in January 2015. Authorities say the girl gave birth to Cervantes’ son in September 2015. The 35-year-old has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed that Cervantes was a friend of the girl’s family. Col. John Fortunato spoke to reporters and described how the suspect manipulated the victim into staying quiet.
“He told her not to say anything because he would go to jail,” he said.
The girl’s stomach began to protrude in August 2015, leading a school counselor to ask if she was pregnant. Though she denied it, authorities say her mother took the 12-year-old to a medical center where doctors confirmed that she was with child.
The Livingston Parish News reports that Cervantes was arrested in June 2016. He was originally charged with three counts of aggravated rape of a victim under 13. Another count of aggravated rape was added in August 2016.
Westwego police Detective Tyler Lopez told that Cervantes, who is in the country illegally, was hard to track down because he uses several aliases. Authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest but it took several days to locate the 35-year-old.
Bond was set for Cervantes at $500,000 on each of the three counts of aggravated rape of a victim under 13 and an additional $500,000 on the aggravated rape charge. He remains imprisoned and awaiting trial.
A 29-year-old Hammond man was arrested after authorities determined he had raped and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl on numerous occasions, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell Wayne Rider is accused of raping the child, instructing her to perform oral sex on him along with other sexual acts, all many times, according to his arrest report.
The child spoke with authorities at the Children's Advocacy Center, saying that Rider had told her not to tell anyone about the sexual acts because he "would go to jail for a very long time," the report says.
The child told authorities that Rider taught her things of a sexual nature that she knew "she should not know at her age," the report says.
Rider, 18075 Eastgate Dr., Hammond, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of first-degree rape, molestation of a juvenile, sexual battery and oral sexual battery.

OSAGE | A 69-year-old man has been charged with sexual abuse-related offenses in Mitchell County, the sheriff's office said.

Criminal complaints say Stroberg admitted to law enforcement he performed a sex act on the boy.
Stroberg was arrested Aug. 2 after an investigation by the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
He remains in the Mitchell County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Every time her mother left, Terry sexually assaulted the girl, touching her inappropriately, reports state.

Terry was located in Nephi and denied ever touching the girl.

A MAN from Chingford has been jailed for eight years for a number of historic child sexual assaults.
Anthony Coraldean, 58, of Vincent Road, was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault on a child under 14 and one count of cruelty to a child under 14 between 1989 and 1990 at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, July 11.
He was acquitted of two other indecent assaults.
He was sentenced today (Thursday, August 3) and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
The victim had been forced to carry out a number of sexual acts with Corladean in the late 1980s and early 1990s at an address in Chingford.
She contacted the police in September 2016.
Coraldean was arrested and charged a month later.
He denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty during a week-long trial.
DC Lauren Brady, of the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, who led the investigation, said: "We are pleased to see Coraldean has received a significant custodial sentence for his abhorrent crimes. His offences may have taken place a long time ago, but they have had a long-lasting impact on the victim’s life. We can only hope that his imprisonment provides her with some closure, and that she is now fully able to move on with her life.
"I would like to thank her for her bravery in reporting her abuse and throughout the judicial process. I would urge any victims of abuse to come forward and speak to us; the Metropolitan Police Service takes such allegations of abuse very, very seriously and will treat any victims with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity."

BARNSTABLE — A Barnstable Superior Court judge set a $10,000 bail for a Brewster man accused of raping a 5-year-old girl. The man previously had been ordered held without bail by an Orleans District Court judge because of the potential danger he poses to the community.

Jeremy Frazier, 34, who once played a role in the murder trial of Christopher McCowen, was arrested June 15 on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation and assault and battery on a child with injury. He was later released on $1,000 cash bail.

On July 19, a warrant was issued for Frazier on additional charges of rape of a child with force, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and reckless endangerment of a child, according to court documents.

Frazier turned himself in to police the next day and had a dangerousness hearing July 25. He then sought a bail review hearing in the higher court.

“If this man’s name was Jeremy Smith we wouldn’t be here,” Judge Gary Nickerson said Thursday before imposing conditions on Frazier’s release. “Pretrial detention is not appropriate in the case of Jeremy Smith, nor should it be in the case of Jeremy Frazier.”

McCowen, who was found guilty in the 2002 rape and murder of fashion writer Christa Worthington, accused Frazier of stabbing Worthington to death at her Truro home. Frazier had an alibi, and McCowen was convicted and is serving a life sentence for the crime.

Frazier is now accused of sexually assaulting the 5-year-old while his girlfriend, Jessica Browe, 26, who is also the victim’s mother, allegedly stood nearby, laughing and holding the couple’s 17-month-old child.

A Taylor County grand jury indicted two Abilene men on Thursday on child sexual abuse charges.
Michael Shane Strickland, 57, faces a continuous sexual abuse of a child charge, a first-degree felony punishable by 25 years to life in prison.
Strickland sexually abused a child younger than 14 years old for 30 days or more, according to court documents. The abuse began in August 2011 and continued through May 2012.
The child told police Strickland molested her about 20 times during that time period, according to court documents.

The grand jury also indicted Brian Sherman Colter, 39, on a charge of indecency with a child, a second-degree felony.
Colter posted a $15,000 bond on April 27 and was released from the Taylor County Jail.
If convicted, he faces two to 20 years in prison, according to the Texas penal code.
Colter molested a child under 14 years old from September 2011 through June 2015, according to court documents.
The child reported the abuse to the Denton County Sheriff's Office but recanted because Colter supposedly threatened to "kill the dogs" and hurt the child's mother if anyone found out about the abuse, court records state. She later detailed the abuse during a forensic interview in Denton County.
