20-year-old woman sentenced for raping infant, making child porn
DENVER (KKTV) - A 20-year-old Colorado Springs woman has learned she will spend the next two decades in prison for sexually abusing an infant and sending out footage of it.
As 11 News previously reported, when Brandi Leonard told Richard Hennis, 41, about the sexual abuse, he asked her to molest the infant again and photograph or video it. The U.S. Department of Justice says they later found those photos from Leonard on Hennis' phone.
The messages between the pair became even darker as they fantasized about kidnapping, raping and dismembering a child, though law enforcement says Leonard indicated she never intended to do it.
The case was investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children unit and Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Limon Police Department.
“Crimes perpetrated against children are especially heinous,” said John Eisert, acting special agent in charge of HSI Denver, in a statement Tuesday. “I’m proud of the work HSI and our law enforcement partners did to identify these malicious predators and rescue the victim in this egregious case, as well as prevent potential future crimes against other children.”
Hennis was sentenced in April. Leonard learned her sentence last week.
Leonard's 20-year sentence will be followed by 10 years on supervised release.
